Regional Freight Advisory Committee

About RFAC

The Regional Freight Advisory Committee (RFAC) advises and makes recommendations to AAMPO’s Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) on freight-related transportation issues. The role of the RFAC is to provide coordinated, comprehensive, and continuous participation in the regional freight transportation planning process. RFAC membership includes representatives from public agencies, private industry, and other stakeholders with an interest in freight transportation, including freight carriers, shippers, logistics providers, trade associations, rail and pipeline operators, economic development organizations, academic institutions, and community representatives. RFAC’s responsibilities include:

  • Consider technical, policy, and operational issues affecting freight mobility, including safety, system performance, infrastructure needs, supply chain efficiency, and emerging trends across all freight modes.
  • Advise AAMPO staff and the TAC on freight-related plans, policies, programs, and investment strategies that support regional mobility, economic competitiveness, and safety. Items on which TAC and the RFAC take different actions may still be brought forward for consideration.
  • Explore funding opportunities and priorities for freight-related projects and programs and provide input on project development and implementation.
  • Recommend or advise the development of freight-related planning studies, programs, and initiatives to be conducted by AAMPO or regional transportation partners.
  • Serve as a forum for collaboration and information exchange among public agencies, private industry, and other stakeholders involved in the movement of freight throughout the region.
  • Support the implementation and periodic update of AAMPO’s Regional Freight Study and provide input into freight-related components of the Metropolitan Transportation Plan (MTP), Transportation Improvement Program (TIP), and Unified Planning Work Program (UPWP).
